Biography
calder bischoff [b.2004] is a producer, composer, and musician from seattle, washington. calder represents the next generation of a long line of professional musicians. because of this, he has been surrounded by experimental sounds, weirdos, and freaks from a young age, making his stage debut at 8 years old in new york.
bischoff began seriously making music at the tail end of 2018 with a focus on composition and production. the earliest years of his career were spent creating demos on his father’s and grandfather’s laptops.
interestingly enough, learning to play instruments came after learning to write and produce music. around 2020, bischoff started the process of teaching himself a variety of instruments including, but not limited to piano/keyboards, guitar, and countless synthesizers ranging from more traditional analog synths, to modular synths and the theory behind modular synthesis.
in a sense, bischoff began his musical life backwards from most, starting as a producer/composer and picking up instruments as he went on. he attributes his unique approach of creating music, often times very intently mixing from the beginning almost as a composition tool, to this.
2020 was also the year bischoff got his first music job, engineering drums for amanda palmer alongside his father korum and uncle jherek bischoff. during this time, he and his family also released an electronic-indie record, thanks for asking, making it the first release he worked on from start to finish. from that point on, bischoff hasn’t looked back, utilizing his various skillsets for over a dozen credits as a solo artist, band member, instrumentalist and composer.
in 2022, bischoff founded the seattle experimental band spawn. spawn has released the full length album erebus & terror (drongo tapes 2025) and live ep SPAWN LIVE FROM OAKLAND (2023). spawn has toured up and down the west coast and have collaborated with other pacific northwest experimental artists including the celebrated free-improv duo CSTMR.
spawn’s debut album erebus & terror was met with positive reviews within the pacific northwest.
“a noise band of young freaks from seattle emerge with their debut tape. 20 tracks spread across a c-42 (out on drongo tapes, a tastemaker of all things weird in the pnw and elsewhere) run the gamut of textural sound experiments, ambient interludes, and most of all propulsive noisy jams featuring bizzare electronics, forward thinking guitar tones, and thumping drums. these disparate elements come together in the tape at breakneck pace and end up feeling like the ebbs and flows of activity in an organism. observe said organism and you’ll percieve a wide variety of behaviors unique to them. spawn have emerged from the primordial soup with tendrils wriggling making some of the most exciting new sounds in the northwest.”

in 2025, bischoff has shifted his focus to his solo work and production/mixing for others. in january he released his first solo work, floating harmonics, a composition of guitar phrases morphing and looping, creating new sounds as the piece progresses as a part of the mutual aid compilation musical aid: a fire relief compilation for the POC community of altadena.
in february, he debuted the “calder bischoff ensemble” at the historic georgetown steamplant for the group art exhibition reins closing ceremony. the ensemble is an outlet for calder to perform his chamber compositions he had been working on for years, with a rotating cast of musicians allowing him to experiment with new ideas and instrumentation each show.
